THE NAUTICAL SECTOR INCREASES REGISTRATION BY 12%

The National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEM) has presented the ‘Report on the pleasure craft market. January-April 2023‘ with the data on the registrations of pleasure boats in Spain, provided by the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine.

The report shows a 12% growth in the nautical market in the period from January to April 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year, with a total of 1.891 recreational boats registered in Spain compared to 1.688 units last year. .

This growth has been supported by the registrations of small boats (up to 6 meters) and boats destined for nautical charter.

1.- NATIONAL NAUTICAL MARKET DATA.

• Registrations by length.
  In the first four months of the year, registrations of small boats have increased by 21.7%, from 1,117 units to 1.359 in 2023. However, the rest of the segments have fallen compared to the same period in 2022.

• Registrations by type of boats.
  Folding inflatable boats and jet skis are the markets that register positive growth and support the nautical market, with growth of 50,5% and 43% respectively.
  On the other hand, motor boats register an increase of 4,5% in registrations compared to the previous year.

• Registrations by provinces.
  The Autonomous Communities with the greatest weight between January and May 2023 remain the same compared to the same period in 2022, with Andalusia occupying first place with 21%, followed by Catalonia (19%) and the Balearic Islands (17,5%).

2.- CHARTER MARKET DATA.

Of the total 1.891 units of boats registered in the period from January to April 2023, 65% are boats for private use (1.222 units) and 35% are for nautical charters (669 units).

Specifically, the registration of recreational boats for nautical charters grew by 22% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Regarding the boat rental market in the Autonomous Communities, the Balearic Islands continues to hold the top position with a share of 30%, followed by Catalonia (21%) and the Valencian Community (15%).
