    23 de May 2023

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea and the General Directorate of Biodiversity, has reached an agreement with the Government of the Balearic Islands to develop and implement the ten buoy fields that are still pending to comply with the Posidonia Decree. It was also agreed that the works of these ten new buoy fields would be carried out in 2024 so that they could be operational in the summer season of 2025.

The General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea will be responsible for drafting, processing and executing the projects for the ten buoy fields in the environmental field. Once the projects are executed, the management will be transferred to PortsIB by the Ministry.

Currently, there are five buoy fields in the pipeline.
The Ministry of Mobility and Housing is processing five buoy fields for anchoring that include 171 points and will be available in the summer of 2024. These buoy fields will be installed on the following islands:

    • Menorca: Illa de l’Aire.
    • Ibiza: Porroig and Cala d’Hort.
    • Mallorca: Es Caló and Sa Foradada.

Which will be complemented by the ten new buoy fields for the summer of 2025 and which will be installed in:

    • Mallorca: Alcanada, Portocolom and Portals Vells-El Mago.
    • Ibiza: Benirràs, Cala Bassa, Cala Salada, Cala Vadella, Es Xarcu, Portinatx and Talamanca.

The objective of protecting the ecosystem of the Posidonia meadows threatened by the illegal anchoring that occurs in these areas would have been achieved with the commissioning of these last ten buoy fields that remained to be completed from those already established in the Posidonia Decree. . In addition, an effective and sustainable response to the demand for boat anchoring will be provided.

PortsIB currently manages a total of eight buoy fields contemplated in the Posidonia Decree, which represent a total of 256 anchoring points and will start operating at the beginning of June. Located at:

    • Mallorca: Cala Brava, Sant Elm, and Formentor.
    • Ibiza: Ses Salines.
    • Formentera: Caló de s’Oli and S’Espalmador.
    • Menorca: Isla de en Colom and Bahía de Fornells.

As of the last week of May, these anchoring points can be reserved.

The objective of the Government is to develop the twenty-three low-impact buoy fields around the coast of the Balearic Islands that are included in the Posidonia Decree, to provide a service to users and monitor and protect the Posidonia meadows while minimizing the impact environment of vessels in the marine environment.
