The Spanish nautical market has shown a downward trend in the registration of recreational boats during the first seven months of 2024.

Between January and July, 3,769 registrations were recorded, representing a reduction of 905 boats compared to the same period in 2023. According to the “Recreational Boat Market Report. January-July 2024”, published by ANEN based on data provided by the Directorate General of the Merchant Marine, this decline is primarily focused on the jet ski market and smaller boats. Meanwhile, boats over 16 meters have shown significant growth.

    NATIONAL NAUTICAL MARKET DATA
    Registrations by length:
The segment of smaller boats (up to 6 meters) has been the most affected, with a 23% decrease in registrations, along with jet skis, which have also suffered. On the other hand, the mid-sized segment (8-12 meters) has shown greater stability, with a more moderate decline of 7%.

As for the segment of boats over 16 meters, they have shown a growth of 24%, suggesting a continued and growing interest in the high-end segment.

    By type of boat:
Overall, all segments have experienced a decrease in registrations. Folding inflatable boats have recorded the largest drop with a 41.8% decrease.

    Registrations by provinces:
The Balearic Islands continue to play a crucial role in the nautical sector in Spain. In 2024, they have maintained their position as one of the leaders in recreational boat registrations, both for private use and for charter. However, they have also experienced a slight decline in registrations, although less so compared to other regions.

    The charter market:
Of the total boats registered during the analyzed period, 62.7% correspond to boats for private use, and 37.3% are boats intended for nautical charter. The charter market follows a similar pattern to the general nautical market, although there is growth in registrations in Cantabria, Almería, Granada, and Valencia.
