The Balearic Government has published a draft prepared by the Ministry of Energy Transition, led by Juan Pedro Yllanes, to modify the regional law on climate change.
The purpose of this modification is to accelerate the reduction of 40% of the polluting emissions of the Balearic Islands until 2030 in order to achieve the objectives of the Climate Change and Energy Transition Law of the Balearic Islands with which it is intended to achieve free islands of fossil fuels in 2050.
Companies renting boats, boats or internal combustion jet skis must reduce their dependence on fossil fuels, progressively replacing their fleet and reaching 2030 with a totally emission-free fleet. Therefore, all those internal combustion charter vessels will be prohibited and will not be able to obtain licenses without complying with the zero emission requirements.
In addition, this modification will also affect the ports since they will have to assess an offer of connection points for the supply or electrical charge of the vessels. On the other hand, the concession of new moorings from 2030 will be exclusively for those vessels that are zero emissions.
